Food in Seoul: Myeongdong (Part 2)

Going to Myeongdong for a day of shopping? Wondering what food to eat in Myeongdong? Here is the second part of my list of restaurants in Myeongdong. You can read part 1 here, where I recommended 4 restaurants 😀

Note: Myeongdong shopping area is between 2 subway stations – Myeongdong station (Line 2) and Euljiro-1-ga station (Line 4)

5. Oppadak (오븐에 빠진 닭)

If you would like to try or are a fan of Chicken and Beer, do check out this restaurant in Myeongdong! English menu is available.

What makes Oppadak a unique Chicken and Beer restaurant? Well, its chicken is not fried but baked!! Although it is baked, it still looks like fried chicken and the skin is crispy, and the meat tender. Since it is baked, it means it is cooked with the natural oils from the chicken. I believe it is healthier haha 😀

We ordered the half and half chicken, which is a whole chicken with half cooked as the original flavour (normal crispy baked chicken) and the other half in the flavour of your choice. You can choose from many flavours: Garlic, Sweet Chilli, Teriyaki, Hot Crispy Baked Chicken, etc. A whole chicken was enough for the 3 of us.

I chose the Garlic flavour which is very popular. This comes with sauce for you to dip too – Chilli (red sauce in pic) and Mustard (yellow sauce in pic).

Oppadak’s Crispy Baked Chicken is great because the skin is very crispy, meat tender and it does not taste oily!! I highly recommend this place!

(Note: I saw that many blogs recommended Two Two Chicken in Myeongdong. However, the restaurant was almost empty so I did not try that out and went to Oppadak instead.)

Where: It is near Euljiro-1-ga station, exit 5/6. (Marked J on the map below)

It is located next to several other Chicken and Beer restaurants. You may want to check them out too 🙂

6. Bonjuk (본죽)

If you would like to try some Korean porridge, head over to Bonjuk. Bonjuk has many branches all over Korea. English menu is available.

I recommend the Beef and Mushroom porridge and the Ginseng Chicken porridge.

The Beef and Mushroom porridge has lots of mushrooms and minced beef. The serving is pretty big and I was very full after eating this despite it being a porridge.

Porridge at Bonjuk comes with side dishes – kimchi and shredded beef.

Ginseng Chicken porridge

The Ginseng Chicken porridge comes with a lot of chicken pieces, Ginseng and red dates.

We also ordered the seafood porridge. There was squid, crab meat and other seafood in it. However, it was a little bland.

7. Outback Steakhouse (아웃백스테이크하우스)

If you would like to eat some non-Asian food, do visit Outback Steakhouse at Myeongdong. It is famous for its steaks and baby back ribs. English menus are available.

First, you will be served free bread with butter. The bread is soft and slightly sweet.

I ordered the baby back ribs, grilled seafood salad & the lobster and prawn cake dish. I did not try any of the steaks

You can choose the sauce for the salad. We chose Honey Mustard, which is the most popular sauce at Outback Steakhouse Korea. I enjoyed this grilled seafood salad very much!! I’d recommend that you order the Grilled Seafood Salad! 😀

Baby Back Ribs

The baby back ribs dish comes in 2 sizes. We ordered the small one, and it comes with a side and soup. For soup, there are 2 choices. I chose the cream of mushroom soup. As for sides, you can choose from baked potato, sweet potato etc. We choose baked potato. The ribs tasted pretty good but were not as soft as I hoped.

Lobster Tail and Prawn Cake

We also ordered the Lobster Tail and Prawn Cake. This also comes with a side dish – sweet potato, which was really sweet. The lobster tail has cheese on top of it. However, I found the lobster a little salty.

When we were finishing our meal, the waiter gave as our bill and asked if we wanted coffee or tea, for free. We choose to get hot green tea.

Overall the service was good and our food came very quickly. Outback Steakhouse is very popular among the locals and most of the customers there were Koreans.
