Food in Korea – Samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken Soup) at Myeongdong

Food in Seoul Ginseng Chicken Soup Samgyetang is a healthy Korean dish with Chicken stuffed with rice, ginseng and Korean red dates, boiled to perfection. It is a popular dish in summer, especially during the very hot days. The chicken is usually served whole.

I’d like to recommend a SamGyeTang restaurant in Seoul, Myeongdong, called GoBong (고봉).

The ginseng chicken soup is very savoury and tasty, with the tender chicken meat. This dish comes with a small cup of Ginseng wine (as seen in the picture below). You can add the ginseng wine into the soup or drink it as it is, depending on your preference.

Price: 14,000 won

I’ve tried Baekje Samgyetang at Myeongdong too (another famous ginseng chicken shop in Myeongdong), but Baekje’s samgyetang is rather bland. So I highly recommend you to try GoBong over Baekje if you want to eat Ginseng Chicken Soup in Myeongdong.

Also, GoBong has been featured on KBS as a recommended ginseng chicken soup shop.
